Middle School Guys Group meets Jacques Couvillon

We are just finishing up a great night with Jacques Couvillon, author of The Chicken Dance, a book we've mentioned here on the blog before. Jacques' book was our read for the middle school guys' reading group, and he was here for it! He talked about writing the book, and showed us cool stuff like the international edition (it has a different cover and the title is different: it's just Chicken Dance in England, Australia, and New Zealand).

Check out this picture of book group member Dante chatting it up with Jacques as he signed his book after the book group met! Jacques also talked about some of his author pals (Jack Gantos, who wrote the Joey Pizga books, and Jeff Kinney of Diary of a Wimpy Kid fame) and his next book, a companion to The Chicken Dance.

I enjoyed this book, in part because it reminded me of some of the classics of Young Adult literature. It's been described as a book about a boy named Don who suddenly has his world turned upside down when he wins the local chicken judging contest. But I think it's more than that--Don finds out some hard truths about his life and the people in it when he begins to figure out who he is and what's important to him. So thank you Jacques for coming today, and thanks for The Chicken Dance. To quote book club member Dante, "this guy wrote a really great book."
