April 1st is the start of the National Book Award process for 2014. Publishers can begin submitting books for consideration and the National Book Foundation, which administers these awards, announced their list of judges this morning.
National Book Awards are given in four categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People's Literature. The majority of judges are accomplished writers within their genre, but the Foundation decided to open the decision process last year to include other experts.
This year's list is available here.
I was asked to be one of the judges in the Young People's Literature category. On behalf of Little Shop of Stories, I feel considerably honored (and a little out of place) to be included with such renowned individuals.
This will be an amazing year of reading. I am looking forward to this immensely.
